BORAME (Somalilandsun) – The purported capture of a large cache of weapons in Borame is perturbing.

The Awdal regional government has denied the neither capture nor existence of a large assortment of illegal arms in Borame town.

BORAME (Somalilandsun) – The purported capture of a large cache of weapons in Borame is perturbing.

The Awdal regional government has denied the neither capture nor existence of a large assortment of illegal arms in Borame town.

The governor of Awdal region Mr. Ahmed Hadi has categorically denied the capture of an assortment of military ordnance as announced by the national police commissioner.

During a press conference On Wednesday the national police commissioner accompanied by the officer commanding the bomb disposal unit announced the capture of a large cache from a house in Borame.

The ordnance that was displayed during the press conference held at police headquarters in Hargeisa has elicited a sharp and contradicting retort from the Awdal regional governor in whose capital city police allege to have captured the weapons.

In a press conference held in his offices at Borame the visibly agitated administrator wondered how the police can claim to have captured illegal weapons whose presence was known to the government.

Governor Ahmed Hadi who said the purported capture of the weapons by police is false because the weapons were in the custody of the wife of the late Abdi Nuur who was a colonel in the Somali army during the mid 80’s.

“The government was aware of the existence, whereabouts, type and quantity of the weapons since the wife of the colonel had informed the government and requested their removal from her custody” Said Governor Hadi

The weapons were then in the custody of the lady since the government of Rayale which was involved in the transfer from civilian custody to that of the military was defeated in elections before it could effect the said transfer.

According to the Awdal governor the purported capture ensued after the wife of the late colonel requested regional officials to take charge of the weaponry as she could no longer continue keeping them.

We informed the national police who came from Hargeisa and removed the weapons from the house in one of the estates in Borame town informed the governor who further said that he was then surprised to view a press conference on TV where the police commissioner displayed the weapons claiming them to have been captured from some suspicious characters.

Who is telling the truth the police commissioner or the regional governor?

With this confusion the most important issue is that the weaponry is finally in government hands though the circumstances remain mysterious.

In the meanwhile it is imperative for the interior minister in whose docket the police force and regional administration fall under make a statement to clarify the whole saga considering the levels of fear raised among the citizenry by the announcement of the capture.
