
Somalilandsun- The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Education Cannot Wait (ECW), and Somaliland’s Ministry of Education have launched the second phase of the Education Cannot Wait programme, with a $6.9 million catalytic grant.
This initiative aims to implement a multi-year education response in Somaliland, focusing on improving access to quality education for children affected by ongoing crises.
This phase will prioritize marginalized and vulnerable children, including those affected by displacement, climate shocks, and conflict, ensuring access to safe learning environments and quality education resources.
The program, which also emphasizes gender inclusivity, teacher training, and community involvement, is a significant step toward bolstering Somaliland’s education system amid challenges
Education Cannot Wait (ECW) is the global fund for education in emergencies and protracted crises.
The ECW supports and protects holistic learning outcomes – so no one is left behind.
ECW works through the multilateral system to both increase the speed of responses in crises and connect immediate relief and longer-term interventions through multi-year programming. ECW works in close partnership with governments, public and private donors, UN agencies, civil society organizations, and other humanitarian and development aid actors to increase efficiencies and end siloed responses.
