Somaliland: VP Sayli Mediates Council and Works Ministry Land Management Dispute

Hargeisa: (Somalilandsun)-The dispute between Hargeisa city council and the ministry of Public works, Housing and Transport is over after both parties reached a point of mutual understanding upon mediation by the Somaliland Vice president Abdirahman Sayli.

The mayor of Hargeisa Abdirahman Solteco and the public works minister Abdirizak Khalif publicly declared the dispute that engulfed the two bodies concerning the authority entitled to govern and act as directorate of public lands.

The minister Hon. Abdirizak Khalif Ahmed said that the miss understanding between the ministry and the local government is permanently solved.

He added that the ministry will not interfere with the local government constitution and procedures.

The mayor added in the press briefing that misunderstandings happen but reaching a mutual understanding level is the best thing in administration procedures.

Both the mayor and minister pledged to work together in the future serving Somaliland and to strengthen the unity of the government.

The dispute follows a circular by the works minister ordering all local councils to cease from any land allocations and in addition to hand over the tall of all public lands in their records.

The minister whose circular was in conformity with a presidential decree that placed all public lands and houses in the domain of the central government, the Hargeisa municipality was the only one to reject the minister’s order which they termed untenable thus opening the floodgates of the dispute that was solved at the Hargeisa presidency under mediation of VP Sayli.
