Somaliland: State Constitutes Committee to Tackle Immorality

HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – The Government of Somaliland is concerned by increasing incidences of moral decadence in the country.

President Ahmed Mahmud Silanyo has established a six member committee charged with the mandate to decisively tackle immorality in the country.

A press statement released by the presidential spokesperson Ahmed Suleiman Duhul which revealed the new committee informed that in constituting the Anti- Immorality Committee composed of senior members of the administration was guided by section 5 of the constitution, ministry of religious affairs report and similar from intelligence services.

Quote-” The office of the president in pursuit of fulfilling administrative obligations pertaining to proper moral conduct in the country hereby informs the below mentioned that they have been co-opted as a committee with the mandate to tackle increasing incidences of moral decadences in the country’ read the statement

Committee Members

1. Minister of Religious Affairs- Chair

2. Minister of Internal Affairs -Member

3. Minister of Labour and social Services -Member

4. Minister of Youth, Sports and Tourism -Member

5. National Police Commissioner -Member

6. Director of National Intelligence Service -Member

“Having appointed you to this committee of national importance I expect diligent and conclusive action towards arresting the decaying cultural values of our nation in a timely and impartial manner” Unquote

Of late various quarters of society especially in gthe capital city Hargeisa have raised a hue and cry over increasing incidences hitherto taboo in the country like gang rapes, muggings, violent robbery and other moral issues discernibly of an anti religious and cultural nature.
