Somaliland: Government signs Coal Mining Deal with Chinese Firm

The Government of Somaliland has ratified an agreement with a mining company from China. The minister of mineral resources Hon. Hussein Abdi Duale has appended his signature to the contractual undertakings okaying the Chinese mining company of Guangzhou Dongsong Energy Gpouo Co Ltd to extract coal from the country.

Hon. Hussein Abdi Duale told the media that the company will mine coal one of the abundantly found resources that would help produce energy in the country. The Government will also construct an industrial plant to remove chemicals from coaled-mined areas and lured other foreign investors to establish their businesses in the country.

The minister assured of increased job opportunities once the company kick starts its operations in the country. This follows the minister’s attendance of a mining summit in South Africa last week where he used the podium to showcasing the country’s mineral potentiality to the attendees in particular & the world at large. Mr. Duale reminded the conference attendees that Somaliland is one of the African countries whose minerals is yet to be tapped when the resource is almost extinct elsewhere.

Speaking at the contract signing ceremony in Hargeisa the deputy Chief operating cum Finance officer of Dongson Company Mr. Mao Jei thanked the government and people of Somaliland for accepting their interest in local investment as her promised to ensure that all contractual obligations are fulfilled to the satisfaction of both parties
