Hargeisa (Somaliland sun) The international community has applauded the people of Somaliland for constituting the national electoral commission (NEC) at a time when political bickering was at climax in the country.
European Union has welcomed the timely appointment of the seven members NEC of NE that was approved in the house of representative on Saturday this week.
EU’s special representative to Somaliland and Somalia Michele Urso has expressed support and good working relations with the new commission so as to enable then discharge their functions effectively.
It is believed that EU had a hand in pushing for the formation of the electoral body that will conduct parliamentary and presidential election mid next year.
European Union attached stringent measures to disbursing election funds to the formation of electoral body that would facilitate free and fair elections. Opposition parties are reluctant that the government is buying time so as to postpone presidential elections, a fear that has been dispelled by president Silanyo who promised that presidential elections would be conducted at its schedule time come rain come shine
