Somaliland: Another Mine Claims Life in Burao Town

BURAO(Somalilandsun) – A woman died instantly when a car she travelling in hit a mine at Hodanqaylo, a suburb in Burao town. Three other occupants of the Toyota mark II wagon were seriously injured and were rushed to Buroa General Hospital for treatment.

The deceased Miss. Deqa Abdi Ali and her fellow passengers were coming from a wedding ceremony when their car exploded from the impact of the mine. The Togdheer regional governor Mr.Hamarje reached the scene accompanied by the regional police boss Mr. Ahmed Ilka’ase.

The regional police boss cautioned members of the public from going near the explosion site. This is the second explosion in the spate of a month in the same town.

Earlier this month at October estate a suburb in Burao town a driver for Beder Electricity Company died instantly after his car hit an anti-tank mine.

This incident has caused panic within Buroa’s population who has asked the international organizations like Danish Demining Group and Halo Trust group to comb the town of remnants of such explosives planted by former dictator Siad Barre’s regime.

The car that exploded belonged to Buroa central police station boss Mr. Ahmed Awil Abdillah Ganey and the driver of the car and two women passengers are being treated at Buroa General Hospital.
