This follows the assumption of duties by the new Somaliland envoy to Ethiopia, Ambassador Ali Salan Jirde “Ali Shombe” after his credentials were accepted by the Ethiopian foreign minister Mr.Workmen Gebeyehu

The function held at the Ethiopian ministry of foreign affairs was witnessed by the Foreign Minister Dr Saad Ali Shire and deputy of the incoming envoy Mr.Ayanle Salad Direye

While thanking the Ethiopian FM for a warm welcome and pledging to work tirelessly in not only sustaining but enhancing existing relations between the two friendly and neighboring countries, Amb Ali Shombe participated in deliberations between the two foreign ministers,

According to deputy envoy Ayanle Salad Direye his new boss becomes the first Somaliland diplomat to Ethiopia to officially submit his credentials to the host country’s foreign minister
In another development Dr Sa’ad Ali Shire who is on a working visit to Ethiopia confirmed that he has applied for Somaliland membership to the AU.
This is according to an interview he gave All East Africa news agency. The minister stated that he would like AU to put Somaliland/Somalia agenda as their first discussion. “We were part of Somalia for three decades that is enough, thirty years of bad experience and humiliation of Somaliland people. There is to tangible reason to tie Somaliland to a union which was a failure from the onset. The past twenty five years Somaliland has stood alone and I don’t see why Somaliland should be forced to a unity which won’t work?”he argued.
