Member of Sheffield City Council Ma’roof s said this in a meeting with Somaliland President Ahmed Mohamed Silanyo who has received a delegation from Sheffield City Council members in his Hargeisa office.
President then highlighted his gratefulness for Sheffield city council for their recently call on recognizing Somaliland as an independent state. The president has likewise pointed out his great anticipation that other international state to take the same actions and follow Sheffield city council’s historic decision where it has recognized Somaliland’s independence.
“I am happy to receive here delegates from Sheffield City Council. They have made a historical decision and have recognized Somaliland as free and sovereign state. I am highly proud of their call which Has been a historical one. I am expecting other international states to take Sheffield as an example and follow the same courageous decision made by Sheffield City Council.”
President Silanyo added that Somaliland won’t stop its continuous struggle and efforts in which they are willing to realize their final desire and goal in order to get their long time awaited international diplomatic recognition from the rest of the World, which they are accurately deserved to gain.
“Somaliland people have done a lot. They have achieved a lot as well. I am expecting that Somaliland to succeed their deservedly independence from the international world as soon as possible God willing.”
The leader of the Sheffield City Council delegates Mr. Ma’roof pointed out in his remarks that he had a different picture from Somaliland, and noted, “I and my colleagues in Sheffield we had totally different picture of Somaliland, we were thinking of warlords, we were thinking of there is no law in the country, we were thinking how we travel, but we arrive here I first thought that I arrive at Islamabad airport of Pakistan, so I sow this country as my home country, the people are so humble, so welcoming, and I must appreciate them.”
The councilor has added that intervention of international community intervention with Somaliland is so unfair, as it is contrary to the democratic principles and stated, “You won two fights; one is imperialism and the second fight against oppression, when other neighboring countries were trying to impose decision. I would congratulate the Somaliland nation that you have made your own decision. The intervention of international community with your country is so unfair, because we believe democracy, and democratically the people of Somaliland have decided that they want to live independently, and we the international community must respect your decision and we should recognize you, as we have as took first step in Sheffield. I am grateful to the member of my party consular (Labour) and local Member of parliament, and local of Somaliland community and also local community oppositions they have done such a wonderful job to show the unity, I expect the rest of the cities in UK will follow the same.”
“UK elections are in May 2015 we are hoping that Labour party will come power, we have people in the party who have strong feeling for your country (Somaliland), and we will be able to push and persuade them (labour party) that we must do justice with the Somaliland nation, and it will come when the nation would be recognized, specially UK would recognize the Somaliland nation, that day you would celebrate by cutting the celebration cake with Sheffield recognition.
“You have achieved whatever an independent nation can achieve; your age is only 23 years and you have achieved democracy, building institutions, you are trying to give proper justice to the people, I am particularly pleased that women are playing vital role in the decision making.”
