Somaliland: Scaling Up the Recognition Momentum

HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – President Ahmed Mahmud Silanyo hosted a South African delegation that is in visit to the country at his official residence on Wednesday in Hargeisa. The team is drumming up support for international recognition by exploring ways in which Somaliland can be a member of the international community.

Silanyo thanked the team for the visit and was equally optimistic that their efforts of securing a sovereign nation would ultimately be fruitful when the international community shall recognize the country.

After the meeting with the head of state at the presidency, Foreign Affairs & International Co-operation Minister Mohamed Bihi Yonis flanked by the head of the delegation, Gariik Mall briefed the press on the nature and prospects of the visit.

Bihi explained that the team is composed of personalities with diverse background as far as international relations & diplomacy is concerned coupled with expertise of drafting ways to go in attaining recognition status.

Likewise Gariik Mall highlighted the imminent progress that the nation has achieved without external assistance that urgently calls for I.C. to recognize it.

Other members of the team also pointed the pace of development taking place in the country with revelation that they also toured Hargeisa in 2003 hence noting the difference.

Mall parted by promising to table strong grounds in support of international recognition at their attendance of different global forums.
