Somaliland: Salahle Residents Achieve Communal Dream

HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – Community endeavours have resulted in the tarmacking of Salahle-Hargeisa road.

The president H.E Ahmed Mahmud Silanyo has congratulated residents of Salahle for concerted efforts that ensued with the ease of movement from the capital city Hargeisa.

The head of state said this during the opening of a 20 Kms tarmac road in Salahle town that was constructed through funds collected by area residents under the leadership of Mr Ali Ibrahim Mohamed a local community leader

‘While commending you for the communal endeavour you have successfully portrayed here, I promise government support towards ensuring the remaining phase of the road construction is achieved” Said president Silanyo

The head of state urged other Somalilanders to emulate Salahle residents as pertains to the implementation of communal development projects thus alleviate various constraints associated with livelihoods especially in rural areas.

According to Mr Ali Ibrahim Mohamed the local community which has facilitated the tarmacking of 20 Kms of Salahle-Hargeisa road intends to see to it the remaining 60 Kms stretch is similarly refurbished.

He informed that the road which was original constructed by the Italians during the second world war, said that damage related to soil erosion made the journey to Hargeisa lengthily and tiresome for commuters.

Said he, “Due to current recarpeting residents commute with ease thus alleviation of a number of formerly insurmountable difficulties”

Apart from the government support promised by president Silanyo towards the road construction project that cost $6000 other contributors include Telesom who donated $30,000 and Alnuur Furniture Company who chipped-in 50 barrels of Tar.

The colourful road opening ceremony officiated by president Silanyo saw a multitude of people participate including politicians, lawmakers and government officials.
