Somalilandsun: Botch parliamentary and local council’s elections in Somaliland are only possible in a period of nine months from now,

This was disclosed during a national elections commission –NEC and political parties working group meeting held in Hargeisa.

In their briefing NEC revealed that it requires nine a period of nine months to prepare adequately for a free and fair, first ever simultaneous parliamentary and local council’s elections in the country.

A statement released by NEC read

The Somaliland national elections commission and without any coercion or pressure from ay quarters and guided by laws #37/2007, #20/2001 and law #20-2/2005 has on this day of 23rd August 2020 released the official parliamentary and local council’s elections timetable.

Having expended sufficient time to this activity NEC hereby informs that the timetable has been set in three stages namely

  1. General preparation for simultaneous parliamentary and local councils elections
  2. Voter registration and
  3. Conduct of polls

This schedule is set for nine months thus elections to be undertaken in May 2021
