Somaliland: Feisal Ali Warabe Unveils Third Shot at the Presidency

 Somalilandsun- The chairman of justice and welfare party of UCID, Eng. Faisal Ali Waraabe, has officially unveiled to his third candidacy of presidential election slated in 27 March 2017. 

In an Kalsan TV interview he announced that he should  run in the party’s convention. He disdained the candidacy of Jamaal Ali Hussein, who is the party’s current runner.

Aim a candidate who has to vying to be elected  in the central committee convention which isn’t still slated. I have competence of holding this position,” the chairman of UCID said, added “Jamal Ali Hussein should not be as party’s candidate bearer and he is not fit to this post. He must stop of the  insinuation against me and Muse Bihi (the ruling party chairman and presidential nominee) that he makes frequently in anywhere.”

The UCID party has been jeopardized  a political dispute and differences over its leadership, particularly the chairman and presidential candidate, Faisal Ali Warabe and Jamal Ali Hussein. Thus resulted their case filed to supreme court.

The verdict of the supreme court

Somaliland Constitutional court today issued its verdict in the long running case involving top UCID officials’ leadership dispute on 16 September  2016.Dr. Aden Haji Ali Ahmed, the chairman of the Constitutional court of the Republic of Somaliland read the verdict in front of a packed courtroom.

He stated as follows:-

1. The Justice and Welfare party (UCID) officials should convene an extraordinary party convention with 60 days starting from today.

2. The delegates taking part in the convention should be selected in accordance with the party’s laws.

3. The sides should select 10 members tasked with organizing the party’s and they shall be working with the leadership of the party, the 10 members are to be selected equally from both sides.

In accordance with Article 7 of the constitution, the Court endorses section 4, 5, 6 and 7 of Political Party Registration and Verification Committee-PPR&VC verdict.

Jamal and Feisal The Constitutional court verdict is similar to the one issued by the Political Party Registration and Verification Committee-PPR&VC nearly two months ago.”

On the other hand, this announcement will rise the tensions of party’s friction. The UCID Chairman had competed to the presidency in two previous time and both was failed the elections held in June 2003 and June 2010.
