Dubai (somalilandsun) – The main Somaliland port at Berbera is to see a large infusion of development funds from the government of the United Arab Emirates.
This follows the signing a port development contract between the governments of Somalilamd and the UAE at Dubai signed by the the chairman of Dubai World Sultan Ah,ed bin Sulyman and the Somaliland foreign minister Dr Saad Ali Shire.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by the Somaliland president Ahmed Mahmud Silanyo and the UAE prime minister and ruler of Dubai Mohamed bin Rashid Al-Makhtoum.
As part of its contractual obligations Dubai World is charged with the Berbera port management, structural development as well as renovation of the Berbera corridor that joins Somaliland to Ethiopia
Similarly the UAE government is also obligated to finance a five star hotel in Berbera in additional to developing agriculture, energy and tourism sectors nationwide.
This signature brings to an end the bid by French firm Bollores logistics for the Berbera port contract.
