Somalilandsun: The Erigavo local government shall be co-led by UCID and Wadani opposition parties.
This follows the swearing-in of Councillor Ismail Haji Nuur of Wadani party as the Mayor of Erigavo.
The re-election of Ismail Haji Nuur as both a Councillor in the Somaliland May 2021 polls and subsequent retention of his mayoral robes did not come as a surprise
Courtesy of the UCID -Wadani power control coalition the Erigavo local government shall have Councillor Abdirahman Gaadhijiidh of UCID as deputy Mayor.
For Mayor Ismail who is not only the oldest elected but long serving civic leader in Somaliland challenges are many.
Now in his mid 70s Cllr Ismail was first elected in the local councils elections of 2002.
Since then he has had a strong grip in the affairs of the council and the wider Sanaag region whose capital is Erigavo.
Though a progressive leader who never backs off when he starts, Mayor Ismail has now to contend with the large breed of young and educated politicians elected to his council.
The Erigavo local council is composed of 13 members whose election and subsequent sitting was Certified by the Sanaag regional court.
In the elections of 2002 in which the three national political parties fielded 13 candidates each , Wadani emerged winner with six seats
In the west of the country the UCID-Wadani opposition parties coalition took hold of both the Baki local government office of Mayor and deputy mayor .
From Baki in Awdal region in the west of Somaliland back to Sanaag in the east, the opposition parties’ coalition won the mayor and deputy mayor posts in the El-afweine local council
Of the already concluded councillors swearing-in and subsequent election of mayors ruling Kulmiye has garnered only the leadership of Berbera
