Somaliland: Coastal Towns Demonstrate in Protest of DP World Comtract

Somalilandsun- A Demonstration against a deal of extending the Berbera Port signed by Somaliland’s government and DP World early in 9, May 2016, has took Place in Berbera city, capital of Sahil region on Monday.

Protestors have burned Tires in heart streets in the coastal city of Berbera. This demonstrators were shouting anti the agreement of Berbera Port which  due to be invested by DP World a public owned to UAE which is modernizing the harbor to become regional hub. The agreement which would officially finished in July in this year  which costs  $442 Million.

The Saaxil regional governor Jama  Yusuf Ahmed told to BBC Somali Service that few people were arrested in the accident. The governor didn’t brief  a further information about this demonstration.

On the other hand another demonstration which had similar purpose the previous one occurred in Abdal, Village west of  Berbera district.

 security forces  chased the protestors and suspended the demonstration while a heavy winds occur in the Town. The  demonstration became one day after a technical experts from DP World arrived in Berbera to assess the current situation of the  Port.
