Somalilandsun: Conduct of a free , Fair and peaceful election in Sool region has led to new security measures.
The new eight point measures that will be in force for the next three months were unveiled the same day Presidency appointed a deputy governor for the region.
Revealing that the new guidelines shall take effect immediately and that violators shall face the wrath of law, the Sool regional security Committee further pledged to ensure a peaceful campaign and subsequent day.
The Sool regional security committee comprising of Governor Abdiqani Mohamud Jide, Las Anod Mayor Abdiaziz Hussein Taarwale, Regional Police Commander Colonel Ahmed Abdillahi Abdi and Eastern Zone Commander of the National Army Brigadier General Ali Barre Hussein.
Upon conclusion of the meeting held at the Governor’s office the eight point security measures adopted and to be active for the three months imposed are
1- All unlicensed weapons to be Seizured
2-All Vehicles must have legal license plates
3- Security organs alert level up during electioneering and voting
4-Seized firearms shall be in state custody 90 days
- Any civilan caught dressed in military uniform (Tute) shall be arrested on the spot
Civilians are prohibited from Carrying weapons in public
7- Night movement for vehicles only for approved essential service sectors
- Cars with tinted windows are prohibited
.in the meantime, the Somaliand presiidency enhanced the operational capacity of the Sool regional administration
In s statement it was informed that President Bihi has appointed a deputy governor for the region taking effect immediately.
In decree #JSL / XM / WM / 222-658 / 052021 the President said that upon guidance by Article 90 of the Somaliland Constitution
” and cognizant of the importance of a fully functional region administration in Security and State Building;
Satisfied that he holds relevant ability to undertake national duties I hereby appoint Mohamed Khalif Nur Ali as the new deputy governor of Sanaag region,
The proper conduct of the 2021 elections in Sool region is very crucial to the Somaliland democratization process.
While the May elections are the country’s first joint parliamentary and local Councils which including for the presidency were held separately I the past, shall also be first to be held in all parts of the eastern region.
During the past Somaliland election as from 2002 he region never participated despite the fact that the sitting speaker of the House of representatives is from there.
Sool which has been in the centre of the territorial despute with the Somalia regional administration of Puntland is slowly recovering from years of armed war induced lack of public services, displacement , deaths , Injuries and loss of property
With NEC having registered thousands of voters , established polling centres, and with above 100 candidates (MPs and Councilors) sponsored by the three political parties Kulmiye, UCID and Wadani it appears that all systems are go.
