Somalias 2016 electoral process preliminary report of the Domestic Election Observer Mission

Somalilandsun- A report issued by Saferworld on behalf of local observers in the Somalia presidential elections concluded that the indirect electoral process in which Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo’ was elected president was largely peaceful – but marred by irregularities and inconsistencies – ultimately falling short of being ‘free and fair’ Read Somalia’s 2016 electoral process: preliminary report of the Domestic Election Observer Mission.
In March 2017, Saferworld and its Somali partner organisations, PUNSAA and SOCSENSA, brought together Somali civil society, authorities and the international community for a conference to discuss the report’s findings and think about next steps for democratisation in Somalia.
