IGAD Welcomes Normalization of Kenya-Somalia Diplomatic Relations

Somalilandsun: The reconciliation between Kenya and Somalia is not only beneficial to the two neighbouring countries but the wider Horn of Africa region as well.

This was stated by the  Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) as it welcomed the RESTORATION  of diplomatic relations between its two sisterly member states of Kenya and Somalia

Commending  the presidents of the two countries for their statesmanship.a statement issued by the regional body read

“IGAD hopes that the agreement will not only improve relations between the two sisterly neighbouring countries but also contribute to the promotion of security, stability and development in the wider Horn of Africa region.
IGAD has been tirelessly encouraging the two countries to put aside their differences and brought both President Uhuru Kenyatta and President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo to a face-to-face meeting at a Summit of Heads of States and Government in Djibouti in December 2020.
H.E. Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, the Executive Secretary of IGAD welcomed the resumption of the ties and said it signified a step forward in realisation of the goal of integration of IGAD countries and reiterated his full support and solidarity with the people of Kenya and Somalia.End

The IGAD region stretches over an area of 5.2 million km2 that comprises the countries of Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan and Uganda. The region has about 6960 Km of coastline with the Indian Ocean, Gulf of Aden, Gulf of Toudjoura and the Red Sea.
