COLUMBUS (Somalilandsun) – Natives of Somaliland resident in the USA state of Ohio shall commemorative their native country’s 2017 independence commemorations in style.
According to the Somaliland Diaspora committee in COLUMBUS various festivities are on the piping towards making the August day a memorable and beneficial one for both participants and drought affected people on Somaliland.
In a press statement the the Somaliland Diaspora committee which is organizing events informed that Plans for commemorating their country of origin 26th Anniversary of independence include family oriented cultural activities by prominent artists from back home and Ohio based.
Dubbed the 26th Somaliland anniversary of independence and Drought fund raiser, the event shall be held at the 3427 South Boulevard Colombus Ohio from 5pm on Sunday 21st May 2017.
While revealing that all the amount accruing from the $25 entry fee shall be contributed towards the Somaliland drought relief , the organizing committee urges Somalilanders from Ohio and other US states to not only participate in full but bring their families, especially kids thence a night of Somali culture.
“We urge all able to participate not only to facilitate availability of much needed drought alleviation funds but to enable children a glimpse of their traditional culture.
Somaliland and other regions of the Horn of Africa are suffering from one of the driest years in memory. Severe shortages of food and water, along with spiralling food prices and the deaths of livestock, have plunged many families into destitution.
The 26th Somaliland Independence Day commemorations in COLUMBUS Ohio shall have the voluntary services of prominent singer NUUR JAMA ADAN_NUURDAALACAY a member of the Somaliland national cultural group assisted by all Somali artist from Ohio.
The Somaliland independence anniversary is commemorated annually on the 18th the day in which the country withdrew from its 1960 voluntary later turned fateful union with Somalia in 1991.
Stating that the Columbus Event was non partisan the organizing committee said its leading members are pooled from the three national Somaliland political parties.
