The Chinese developed Sinopharm vaccine could help bolster supply to under developed countries

Somalilandsun:  China has been urged to join the COVAX facility in order to expand a globally equitable Covid-19 vaccine distribution.”

This follows the Emergency Use Listing (EUL) of China’s Sinopharm vaccine by the World Health organisation-WHO

This approval is prerequisite for COVAX Facility vaccine supply. It also allows countries to expedite their own regulatory approval to import and administer COVID-19 vaccines.

Other vaccines with EUL status are Johnson & Johnson , Moderna, Pfizer and AstraZeneca all by the West thus making Sinopharm only one from the East as Russia’s Sputnik is yet to make the listing.

In a statement on the Sinopharm approval the WHO noted that “The addition of this vaccine has the potential to rapidly accelerate COVID-19 vaccine access for countries seeking to protect health workers and populations at risk,” said Dr Mariângela Simão, WHO Assistant-Director General for Access to Health Products.  “We urge the manufacturer to participate in the COVAX Facility and contribute to the goal of more equitable vaccine distribution.”
