Somalilandsun: Opposition Wadani party has expressed its reservations over ongoing arrests of opposition politicians vying for seats in the forthcoming Somaliland parliamentary and local councils’ elections.
The party’s dissatisfaction were expressed during a meeting between its top leadership and a United Kingdom delegation led by her envoy to Somaliland and Somalia Ambassador Kate Foster
“at the lengthily and candid meeting we discussed issues related to the Somaliland democratization process as well as state fronted impediments to a free and fair ballot on the 31st May this year” revealed the party via its official twitter handle @WADDANI
Further details of the meet’s discussion were revealed by the Wadani party Presidential Candidate 2022 cum ex-Speaker of Parliament Abdirahman Irro led the Wadani officials at the meet including Chairman Abdiqadir Jirde and Hirsi Haji Ali
A post on his twitter @Abdirahmanirro read “Our party had a fruitful discussion with the new UK Ambassador, highlighted unwarranted arbitrary illegal detention of opposition candidates, heavily invested SL infant democracy & stability is at risk, quantum gains made so far need safe-guarding from these unconstitutional act!
Earlier on Amb Foster who is in her maiden visit to Somaliland since assuming officer in February met and held fruitful discussions with government officials led by President Musa Bihi.
