As Washington pledges to support the Country’s security while urging elections be held as planned

HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – It is very imperative that prevalent security in Somaliland is maintained.
This was informed by the Deputy special US representative for Somaliland Mr. Brain H Phipps during a joint press briefing with Minister Hirsi Haji Ali at the Hargeisa Presidency meeting upon completion of a meeting with President Ahmed Mahmud Silanyo.
Informing that the US government has been a development partner for two decades the American diplomat based in the Kenyan Nairobi revealed that discussions with president Silanyo centered on Security and Democratization process.
Thanking the government and people of Somaliland for the warm welcome accorded his delegation Amb Phipps said “The US government is determined towards enhancing its multi-sectored of two decades partnership with this country”
On the issue of security the diplomat said that US is aware of the deteriorating situation locally as pertains to the ongoing War in Yemen, thus pledging support from Washington.

While commentating the country on its democratization process Amb Brain H Phipps said that his government is determined to see that presidential and parliamentary elections slated for Mid this year are held as planned.
Somaliland officials flanking president Silanyo during the Meeting with the visiting USA delegation included Presidency Minister Hirsi Haji Ali, Education minister Prof Farah Geedole, Finance Minister Zamzam Abdi, Defence minister Ahmed Adami, Energy and Minerals minister Eng Hussein Abdi, Interior Minister Mohamed Ali Waran’ade and deputy foreign affairs minister
