“Today 20/01/2016 I Laid the foundation stone of a new modern HQ for the #Somaliland Nat’l Police Force president Ahmed Mahmud Silanyo wrote on his twitter page where he also proffered Many thanks to @DFID_UK.

The Somaliland president posted the thanks immediately upon initiating construction of an ultra-modern police headquarters complex in Hargeisa that has been possible by funds from the government and people of the United Kingdom

This shall be third instance in which Britain the formerly colonial master either constructs or rehabilitates the Somaliland police headquarters in Hargeisa beginning with initial works of 1936 and reconstruction with additions made in 1942.

Though Somaliland remains internationally unrecognized as a sovereign nation since withdrawing from its Union with Somalia in 1991 Britain continues to provide direct Humanitarian and development Aid to the Government in Hargeisa and is an active partner in the country’s democratization process more so the ongoing voter registration.

Residents of Toghdeer region await their turn to register as voters for Somaliland elections slated for March 2017
