First Plane to land at  Las Anod in two decades

LAS ANOD (Somalilandsun) – The Ministry of Civil Aviation officials have confirmed a cargo plane carrying goods for some businessmen had landed first time since the overthrow of Colonel Mohammed Siad Barre in 1991.

Spokesman for the Aviation Ministry Mr. Saddam Mohammed Ahmed said that improvements had been made on the airstrip runway that made it possible for the Fokker 50 plane belonging to sky wards airlines make its madden flight to Somaliland from her base in the Kenyan capital Nairobi.

In a terse press statement to the press by the Aviation Ministry a curtained that the plane was carrying (Khat) a stimulant consumed by locals.

They said that the plane landing was made possible by some local businessmen who funded the refurbishment of the airport. The Ministry of Civil Aviation has late begun wider campaign to uplift the standards of all airports.
