HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – The Marooji-jeeh regional court has reached a verdict in a labour dispute case, pitting United Nations agency (UNICEF) against 17 former employees.

The presiding judge Mr. Faisal Abdilahi Ismael ordered UNICEF. In a letter sent to the organization dated 22/1/14, the UN agency was ordered by the court to pay within ten days the sum of money amounting $ 613,916 to the former workers.

The former employees were represented by Mr. Barkhad Jama Aare and Mr. Said Farah Ahmed. The long standing case was deliberated after a 16 man committee from the office of labour conflict resolutions intervened to solve the labour dispute concerning the employment benefits of the plaintiffs.

In a strong worded statement to the organization the judge ordered UNICEF to pay the employees benefits without delay.
