Somaliland: Nation Commemorates 54th Independence Day with Pomp

HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – in commemoration of the 54th anniversary of independence from Britain on the 26th June 1960 a colourful ceremony was held at the Hargeisa presidency.

Hosted by the president of Somaliland Ahmed Mahmud Silanyo and first lady Amina Weris the hundreds of invitees included ordinary citizens, government ministers, law makers from the two chambers of parliament, political leadership additional and religious leaders as well as a visiting team of Dir Clan elders from Somalia

Speaker after speaker upon congratulating Somaliland for the development strides it has undertaken in the past 23 years since it pulled out of union with Somalia also urged the international community to hasten sovereignty recognition.
