Somaliland: Guurti Approves 31st May 2021 as Consolidated Elections Date

Somalilandsun: The first consolidated Parliamentary and local councils elections in Somaliland shall be held in May this year.
This follows the unanimous approval of the dates submitted to by the president Musa Bihi to Guurti, the upper chamber of the bicameral Somaliland parliament.
In an overwhelming majority of yes vote, elders at the Guurti having accented to the date of 31st May 2021 as the day the nation goes to the ballot during Parliamentary and local councils elections.
The date was designated by the National Election Commission-NEC and then submitted to the president during a meeting with the Electoral body’s seven commissioners at the Presidency in Hargeisa.
This was followed by consensus from the council of ministers leading to tabling at the Guurti for elders approval or otherwise as per dictates of the Somaliland Constitution.
Now it remains for the president to append signature for NEC to start final preparations and subsequent conduct of the poll.
