Somaliland: Government Promises Emergency Relief to Tropical Cyclone Hit Citizens of Puntland

As President of Somalia Federal Government Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud appeals to the international aid for help

Some parts of Puntland were heavily flooded

HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) –The government of Republic of Somaliland has declared its willingness to assist victims hit by the deadly tropical cyclone in Somalia’s autonomous region of Puntland where more than 100 people have been killed by flash floods.

“Somaliland government will send humanitarian aid as quick as possible to those affected by the tropical cyclone in Puntland, Somalia’s semi-autonomous region”

Ministers of Foreign and Interior Affairs of Somaliland Hon. Ali Mohamed Waran-Ade and Mohamed Bihi Yonis stated this in a joint press release held in Hargeisa on Tuesday as they sent their sympathies to the people affected by the deadly tropical cyclone.

Witnesses told BBC Somali Service that they never witnessed such fatal cold and that dozens of people died after their houses collapsed on them.

Reports added that tens of thousands of livestock’s have been killed in the result of the deadly tropical cyclone that brought heavy rains and flash floods in different areas of Puntland state of Somalia.

President of Somalia Federal Government Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud and the president of Puntland region of Somalia Abdirahman Farole appealed for international aid to help the thousands of Somali people affected by the deadly tropical cyclone.

It’s not the first time that Somaliland government has sent a humanitarian aid support to Somalia, in the year 2011 President Ahmed Silanyo did the same and contributed over half a million dollar to people in South and Central Somalia where hundreds of people have been killed by severe drought.
