MAG is a humanitarian organisation, working in conflict and former conflict countries to reduce the devastating effects of armed violence and the remnants of conflict for the benefit of local communities.

MAG’s work in Somalia is currently centred around Hargeisa, the administrative capital of Somaliland, and Garowe, the administrative capital of Puntland. MAG is seeking a Technical Operations Manager, who will have overall responsibility for leading and safely managing all technical operations in Somalia. You will be based in Hargeisa, Somaliland but travel regularly within Somaliland and Puntland and expected to attending meetings in Nairobi, liaising with donors and other stakeholders, as well as engaging in business development activities. Working closely with the Country Director, you will manage a team of international staff spread out over geographically diverse areas.

With a focus on expanding existing operations, you will be responsible for providing technical input into proposals and reports, as well as developing and maintaining relationships with donors, government agencies and other stakeholders. In addition, you will constantly seek to identify opportunities to develop and improve MAG’s work in an evolving political and security context.

This is a demanding role in a complex and evolving context, with operations across geographically diverse areas. As well as the necessary technical qualifications and experience, a patient, tactful and diplomatic approach is therefore essential. Due to the potential of expanding current operations, the successful candidate will also require experience in EOD and minefield clearance and survey.

MAG takes its responsibility for the security and wellbeing of its staff very seriously. The post holder will therefore often be living and working in close proximity to other MAG staff, it is anticipated that separate accommodation will be available in Hargeisa close to the MAG office.
