somalilandsun- The civil society organizations in Somaliland are dedicated to the promotion of a conducive environment for free and fair elections in the country.

this is per a press statement released by the Somalilanews Non State Actors-SONSAF in which the CSO’s also briefed on their meeting with president Ahmed Mahmud Silamyo pertinent to the same issue . Read below the two separate briefings 

Press Statement on Voter Registration Observation

On January 16th – 22, 2016: Somaliland Non – State Actors Forum (SONSAF) in collaboration with Somaliland Civil Society Election Forum (SCISEF) deployed domestic observers in more than 90 out of 163 voter registration centers in the Togdher region. The CSO/NSA is undertaking this huge task to pave the way forward for how free and fair elections can be conducted in March 28th 2017. This civil society engagement both domestic observation and voter education has meaningful input to maximize the public participation, transparency and accountability and to help facilitate elections and stakeholders with equal term to reach common grounds on this process of the electoral system in Somaliland.

Press Release: Meeting between President of Somaliland and Civil Society

On June 20 2016: Somaliland Civil Society involving democratization process met with the President of the Republic of Somaliland his Excellency Ahmed Mohamed Mohamoud (SILANYO) at presidential palace. The objective of the meeting was to brief the president on electoral issues with the focus on the finalization of the voter registration process and elections preparations.
The CSOs presented to the President of Somaliland their views and policy recommendations towards the electoral process which CSOs raised strong concerns about the timeframe and remaining assignments of the voter registration and elections preparations, which may hinder elections if all concerned stakeholders may not demonstrate consolidated efforts and further commitments.
