Somaliland: Contest for House of Representatives Speaker as NEC Releases Sool Parliamentary Election Results

Somalilandsun: As citizens breathe a sigh of relief from hectic campaigns and balloting for Somaliland elections 2021, speculation is now rife as per results.
To relieve the anticipations the national elections commission- NEC has been releasing partial results as they are received at its headquarters in Hargeisa
So far results from 13 local council have been made public while Sool region becomes the first to announce parliamentary results.
According to the Sool regional Elections returning officer the 12 parliamentary seats contested by 36 candidates 12 each from the three political parties were won as follows.
1. UCID party garnered 3.
2. Kulmiye party 5 and
3. Wadani party 4
The significance of the Sool regional representation at the Somaliland house of representatives emanates from the post of speaker.

While not a Constitutional dictate but a gentleman’s agreement the speaker of the Somaliland lower chamber of parliament post is always a preserve of the region.

Thus the interest generated by the main two candidates now both elected from Kulmiye and Wadani parties.
The two, former foreign affairs minister Prof Yassin Faraton of Kulmiye and opponent Abdirizaq Khalif Ahmed-Wadani party won comfortably with 4456 and 3478 votes respectively.
Now the total nationwide vote return for the 82 parliamentary seats will determine who between Faraton and Abdirizaq is new speaker of the Somaliland house of representatives.

Reelected mayor of Erigavo , Ismail Haji Nuur becomes the oldest councillor in Somaliland

With the signs emanating from the partial results in which ruling Kulmiye party has a slight majority , a combined opposition parties vote will deny it leadership of not only parliament but most local Councils.
So far the only two local councils in which ruling Kulmiye party has an absolute majority is Hudun and Taleeh both in Sool region
In the Sanaag regional capital the announcement that sitting Mayor Ismail Haji Nuur of Wadani has been reelected makes his the oldest councillor in the oncoming local councils administration in the country
NEC has also revealed results from 13 of the 23 local councils as per the table availed by NEC below
