Somalilandsun: Following the successful opening of the Consultative Summit on relations between Somaliland and Somalia hosted by Djibouti and chaired by president Ismail Omar Guelleh on the 14th June 2020 and attended by the Ethiopian prime minister, US Envoy to Somalia Donald Yamamoto as well as other various diplomats and representatives from the EU and IGAD among others, a technical committee was appointed.
Chaired by the Djiboutian foreign minister the technical committee composed of representatives from Somaliland and Somalia held negotiations from 15-17 June 2020, that culminated with a five point agreement that established guidelines for future meetings as well as dates.
In a follow up development the Djiboutian foreign ministry has released a Communique of the Meeting of the Joint Ministerial Committee on Somalia- Somaliland Talks dated 22nd June 2020.
According to the Communique the Technical committee composed mainly of ministers from the two principal countries shall now be reconstituted as Joint Ministerial Committee on Somalia- Somaliland composed of 14 members with the Somalia team led by the minister of interior Abdi Mohamed Sabriye while the Somaliland team shall be led the Minister of foreign affairs Yasin Haji Mohamud ‘Faraton’
It is has not be made clear on the future presence of non-minister negotiators like Edna Adan who is the chairperson of the Somaliland Recognition Commission and a prominent participant in the just concluded talks in Djibouti
