Somalilandsun: As Taiwan and Somaliland enhance relations some are wondering whether it is a one sided deal with Taipei the giver and Hargeisa recipient.

This as queried by the editor of Taiwan Times in a an item pick from the Puntland  Post related to an initiative to support women owned businesses growth in Burao.

The launched  program Dubbed Hodmiye (wealth creator) will Ten thousand Female entrepreneurs in Toghdeer region of Somaliland benefit from a Business Growth initiative launched by Amal Bank in the regional Buroa.
Toghdeer region is second in the country after Awdal region to benefit from  this program part which  of ithe bank’s  commitment to boosting local economies “

Accordingly “Amal Bank will extend interest-free loans to small businesses owned by women in Burao. The bank’s motto is ‘development for the person, the family and the business” said Sheikh Adan Yusuf, the manager of the Burao branch of Amal Bank.

In a week that has seen a number of reports of Taiwanese governmental and business interactions with its newest diplomatic ally, and continued moves to familiarise himself with Taiwanese business and society by the Somaliland ambassador to Taiwan, Mohamed Hagi, questions have been raised on whether or not Taiwan is being seen merely as a giver, and provider of aid to Somaliland, rather than an equal partner in trade and the exchange of services and expertise.
