Djibouti: DARE1 Fber-optic Submarine Cable Facilitates Landing and Hosting of Over 8 Cables

Somalilandsun: Djibouti’s telecommunications operator, Djibouti Telecom, has officially commissioned its extension of the Djibouti Africa Regional Express 1 (DARE1) fiber-optic submarine cable.

“This is a new step in our government’s strategy to make Djibouti a hub for international cable systems […] the landing and hosting of more than 8 cables in Djibouti has given our country has the precious distinction of being the most connected country and a technological center for sub-Saharan Africa, ”said Radwan Abdillahi Bahdon, Minister of Communication, Posts and Telecommunications.

The DARE1 projectDARE1 project was initiated in 2016 with the ambition of revolutionizing the connectivity offer in several countries in East Africa and the Middle East. The 4,900-kilometer cable built by TE SubCom lands in the cities of Dar es Salaam (Tanzania), Mombasa (Kenya), Mogadishu (Somalia), Bossaso (Puntland), Berbera (Somaliland), Mocha (Yemen) and Djibouti City (Djibouti).
