Somalilandsun: The latest visit to Awdal region by president Muse Bihi Abdi has been termed as a for political gain photo opportunity.
This is according to the Somaliland opposition party WADDANI during a presser in Hargeisa undertaken by the party’s Secretary of Planning of the country Bashir Abdi Harir
“At this moment in time our country cannot afford the huge expenditure incur by the president and his large entourage whose only purpose is citizens’ flag-waving, red carpets display and subsequent photo opportunity” said the opposition politician
The Wadani critique is in relation to the president’s last week’s visit to Borama the capital of country’s western Awdal region where he officiated over the 19th Amoud University graduation, inaugurated a landmark bridge connecting the institution to the town among other functions including meetings with regional government administrators and local traditional leaders
According to Bashir “when our elected leaders make regional visits It is in our interest if it is for purposes of assessing public institutions and services like health and water, education services etc. as well as security and community peaceful co-existence” adding that the poor condition of regional government departments and police stations is a far cry from the drum beatings during presidential visits.
Upon completing functions in Awdal and on the way back to Hargeisa the president and his entourage visited Gabile where they were accorded a red carpet by flag and twigs waving residents
The Wadani party likened the tumultuous welcome accorded president Bihi in Awdal and Gabile regions to president Xi Jinping visiting Taiwan upon compromise of the two countries
During his visit the western regions of Somaliland the President of the Republic of Somaliland not only inspected government facilities but launched numerous projects for implementation as well.
