HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – The Hargeisa regional court has imposed a one year imprisonment sentence a traditional leader.
King Mahmoud Osman Buurmadow was sentenced to the one year prison term after he was found guilty of abusing national leaders and more specifically the president H.E Ahmed Mahmoud Silanyo, contrary to section 268 of the penal code.
The court dismissed another charge related to the king’s treasonable activities while abroad after the prosecution failed to provide any proof against the treasonable crimes that the king is purported to have committed while in the United Arab Emirates and other foreign countries.
King Buurmadow who is a traditional leader of a Sanaag based clan has been in remand at the Hargeisa prison for the last four months following his arrest at the Egal international airport on arrival from the UAE. It is yet to be established where the combative traditional leader will serve his year long sentence
According to lawyer Barkhad Jama Aar who led the king’s legal team, the one year sentence imposed on the king was contrary to the section 268 of the penal code that it was purported imposed on as well as other legal stipulations since the legal team was not allowed to defend the accused.
