HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – The issue of Kenya establishing direct diplomatic relations with Somaliland is now a foregone conclusion.
This development follows the arrival in Hargeisa of a team from Kenya’s ministry of Foreign affairs in company of the Somaliland representative in Nairobi Ambassador Mahmud Jama Sifir for the specific purpose of official opening a consulate in Hargeisa.
The first official salvo towards the Kenyan desire to open direct diplomatic relations with Somaliland was fired by principal secretary at the ministry of foreign affairs Karanja Kibicho during a briefing to the Nairobi parliament while the local announcement was made by Somaliland presidential spokesperson Ahmed Suleiman Duhul.
According to reports the four man Kenyan team assisted by Somaliland counterparts which was busy scouring the city for suitable premises to host the mission since arrival are now said to be satisfied with what they got thence all systems go for the Kenya Consulate that becomes the second one after that of Ethiopia.
