Somalilandsun- Just the other day the site where my hospital is located was not only a target for enemies of Somaliland but a place where citizens were butchered wantonly.
This was stated by Prominent Daughter of Somaliland Edna Adan during a press briefing in Hargeisa where she gave her 100% support and approval to the government’s award of a military base in Berbera to the United Arab Emirates
Stressing on the fact that Somaliland has a lot of enemies Edna Adan said having a foreign military Base stationed in the country will facilitated defense against naval and aerial attacks.
Said she, “The establishment of an UAE military base and subsequent stating of forces in Berbera for a period of twenty five years literally translates to a quarter century without fear of naval or aerial attack”
Reminiscing on the status of the location of the Edna Adan Hospital she operates in Hargeisa which she termed as the venue of massacre by forces loyal to dictator Siyad Barre during the 80’s, the prominent daughter of Somaliland said that citizens of Somaliland can never rest at peace devoid of military might that keeps enemies at bay.
Similarly she termed Berbera as a strategic spot within the wider global shipping trade thence the availability of powerful forces to protect ships and their cargoes is another advantage in hosting the Emirati forces.
The governments of Somaliland and the UAE are in 25 years deal to have an Emirati military base catering for both naval and air forces based at the port town of Berbera.
Edna Adan who is a former Somaliland minister of foreign affairs and currently a member of the national recognition committee is the proprietor of Edna Adan hospital which is the foremost medical institution in Somaliland where it also operates an in house university.
The Hargeisa based Edna Adan hospital is ranked #13 in Africa and 4149 Globally
