BURAO (Somalilandsun) – 18 months after he left his country a Chinese cyclist has reached Somaliland.
Master Fong Yong Du has termed Somaliland as a peaceful and secure country where every person citizen or police officers offer help and support at every big or small shopping centre.
Fong Yong Du, a youthful Chinese cyclist who has been in the country for a couple of days has cycled through 14 countries thus making Somaliland 15th one of his aim to cycle the world.
During an interview with Keyse Digale of Toghdeernews.com and HCTV in Burao, Mr. Du said that of his Round the World Cycle Quest, that started 18 months ago, precisely in August 2011, he has so far traversed through China Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, India, Iran , Armenia, Georgia, Turkey , Jordan, Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Djibouti and now Somaliland.
Said he, “The first phase of my quest ends in South Africa”
To reach the end destination of the first phase of his cycle round the world, the Chinese cyclist will from Somaliland go through Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Zambia, Mozambique, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Botswana and then the land of Nelson Mandela.
Revealing that his journey has been received well in each of the countries he has gone through, the youthful Chinese cyclist had special praise for Somalilanders whom he termed as kind and very supportive.
Said he, “Citizens and police officers of this country are very friendly and kind people who after introductions and enquiries of my activities then offer to provide any help required”
Queried on the recent UK travel Ban for Westerners due to some security threats deduced by the Britons, Mr. Du who was quick to inform that he is not a westerner but Easterner said that he is yet to perceive any threat from any quarters and actually feel more secure in Somaliland than in most countries he passed.
