Somalilandsun – The president Mr. Ahmed Mohamed Mahmoud has fulfilled many programs during his term of office. The following are some of the achievements of the president Mr. Ahmed Mohamed Mahmoud during his tenure in office: Improved the country’s infrastructure such roads linking up with major cities in Somaliland and has encouraged inner city roads to be built here in Somaliland. investing in education, which has allowed us to build dozens of new schools, hire thousands of new teachers, and make primary schooling free for all students. Further expanding and professionalizing the armed forces and police. The president has also appointed various commissions and has brought in for the first time modern civic registration system paving the way for free and fair election and has taken into account the complaints of the people regarding the power sharing and made necessary arrangements on the matter.
The president Mr. Ahmed Mohamed Mahmoud has also initiated privatization for public companies to increase their efficiency and effectiveness. He has even made the media more freer and people could speak or write whatever they may wish. Had the government responsible agencies been followed the criticisms in the press, corrective measures would have been achieved.
Even though the president made all of the above mentioned, he did not tackle corruption and it seems that fraud has taken roots and the president did nothing to curb the issue. We have not seen any improvement regarding job creation schemes and price control for essential commodities and it seems that the former is missing from his administration and the later is also sky rocketed.
The present regime is also weak in exploring investment in various sectors including to that of agriculture and it is also lacking to initiate new ideas that will have impacted the life of the people. The president Mr. Ahmed Mohamed Mahmoud did not tackle corruption and it seems that corruption has taken roots and the president did nothing to curb the issue. We have not seen any improvement regarding job creation schemes and it seems that the word itself is missing from his administration and the price of essential commodities is also sky rocketed. The present regime is also weak in exploring investment in various sectors including to that of agriculture and it is also lacking to initiate new ideas that will have impacted the life of the people.
I am one of the people who publishes articles in the local newspapers and websites, but I write what I think it is in the interest of the country and its people and have been doing this for almost twenty years, at times I support the government but sometimes I criticize the government and give at the same time instructions needed to correct the mistakes if any. A lot needs to be done, especially I want the president to tackle corruption in which many of us believe that it has taken root. On the other hand, I want his excellence the president Ahmed Mohamed Mohamoud to review on many commissions supposedly designed to carry out specific issues as they did not do what it was supposedly for them to do. I think the commissions have not done anything and the fact is that it is a waste of tax payer’s money.
There is also a need to include professionals in each and every ministry of the government because it’s time for the him to make a history. We will see the difference and they will definitely make the necessary changes and hopefully will come up with new ideas that give rise to jobs. Moreover, they will add impetus to each and every department. This task is not an easy one and it will require courage to do so.
In conclusion, given the above, there are good things that the president has done and may be a list of bad things done. It is always open for the president Mr. Ahmed Mohamed Mohamoud to correct some of the bad things done until the end of the current presidential term. Therefore, the current regime is required to heed to the criticisms of the people against their administration and the administration should come up with solutions to correct the mistakes committed.
