SOMALILAND: UCID Activist Accuse Government of Blocking Football Tournament

Hargeisa: (Somalilandsun): Party for Justice and Development (UCID) secretary of Finance Mrs. Fadumo Said has been denied permission to hold a football tournament for the regions youths in a competition whereby a trophy and other prizes will be won.

Miss Fatuma Said stated that she will go to Gebiley town if the competition is allowed or not and accused the government of double-standards when the opposition initiate any development project. The Finance secretary told a local daily, Horn of Africa, that she had pledged to the Gebiley youth six months earlier that she would sponsor a tournament for the youth of Gebiley and thus was only fulfilling her earlier promised.

The match was expected to start last Wednesday but was postponed because of another tournament was in Hargeisa.

The Ministry of sports and youths affairs coordinator for Gebiley region gave orders that the tournament would not take place. When asked to comment on the order the opposition secretary blamed the government for denying innocent youths their chance to compete in a tournament organized by the opposition.
