Somalilandsun – Somaliland’s hard fought liberty, independence and sovereignty is worth more than all the gold and money in the world. However, if your objective is only the attainment of wealth, then it would seem that you would sell your soul for cold hard cash.
Somaliland represented by a democratically elected President is off to Turkey to meet with a delegation from an undemocratic and unrepresented “provisional government” to talk about our “independence”. Can anyone see how wrong that sounds?
Somaliland preceded the defunct “Somali Republic”. We made a monumental mistake in 1960 which took over 30 years of neglect, prosecution and finally military destruction to correct, and here we are in 2013, the 21st century and we are talking about “Xamar” again?.
Just because the “international community” recognises the provisional government in Mogadishu doesn’t mean a thing. Remember this is the same international community who turned its back on the Balkan genocide, the Rwandan genocide, the apartheid system in South Africa and finally, the illegal war that destroyed Iraq. Who gives a damn what the “international community” says?
If they come to our homes in Hargeisa, Burao, Borama, Berbera, Las Anod and Erigavo and try to use force to drag us back to Mogadishu, then that is one thing, but in the meantime take whatever meagre funds they throw our way ( remember they spent billions on Somalia for nothing, and we in Somaliland had to salvage and save), and tell them to take a hike!
Somalilanders will never, ever, make the same mistake as they did in 1960. You see, these “international community” folks think everyone is like them. “There will be a loose union, each area doing its own thing and so on”. But, we are talking about Africa. There is only one capital, only one show and only one man. Right now the folks in Mogadishu cannot even get to Afgoye unmolested and they want to govern Somaliland!.
What makes anyone think that whatever despot that comes to power in Mogadishu will not start “tickling” Somaliland again? Folks, we have seen this show again and again. Will we never learn?
There is nothing for Somalilanders in Mogadishu, heck, there is nothing in Mogadishu for a non-Hawiye Somali. What is this urge to rekindle the old wounds again. Are we some kind of lemmings who just cannot resist the urge to head for the nearest cliff. Come on.
It is better to live in a simple shack than desire the most majestic palace if its means losing your identity, self-respect and finally your life in pursuit of it.
Think about it, if Turkish were sincere, they would stop kicking the heck out of the Kurds, and these our brokers!!
