LAS ANOD (Somalilandsun) – The Sool Regional prosecutor has been assassinated by masked gunmen outside his house in Las Anod town.
Mr. Ahmed Haji Mahmoud Aw Ali (Du’un Kalaha) died at 9.40pm GMT +3, within the compound of his house after masked gunmen shot him several times.
As up to 10.20pm an exchange of gunfire was ongoing in the middle of Las anod town. Reasons behind the ongoing firing have not yet been confirmed though our reporter in the town is of the opinion that relatives of the slayed prosecutor and security forces are in hot pursuit of the killers.
The assassinated official who is popular known as Duun Kalaha has been acting Sool regional prosecutor for some time having been elevated from the office of assistant prosecutor where he served for a long time.
He becomes the second judiciary official to be targeted for assassination in the recent past following the failed attempt on the life of a Hargeisa magistrate last week.
