Somalilandsun – Once again, certain elements in the hierarchy of the Somali Region of Puntland have decided to provoke Somaliland by transgressing on our territory. The Somaliland Defence Forces have already repulsed this recent incursion which took place in the last 48 hours, and will do everything in its power to protect the people and the territorial integrity of Somaliland.
There is no doubt that the Somaliland Defence Forces can inflict substantial damage to the meagre militia led by the governor of Nugaal, but once again, has shown considerable restraint.
It is time to remind the leadership and the people of Puntland, that all political issues between the two neighbours can be resolved amicably without loss of life or property. Somaliland is adamant that the residents in that area will continue to enjoy peace and development. These residents will not be harassed by a militia motivated by land grab.
But, I would like remind the people and leadership of Puntland, Somaliland will not shirk from defending its citizens and their property. This is not Gaalkacyo. This is Somaliland territory and if these kind of unwarranted aggression does not cease or desist, then the Somaliland Defence Forces will not be responsible for the inevitable conclusion to this matter.
The peoples of Somaliland and Puntland want to live in peace, and resolve all political issues in a mature and civilised way. But, rest assured the sword will not remain sheathed if this type of unnecessary aggression does not cease.
