Somalilandsun: The three national Somaliland political parties of UCID, KULMIYE and WADANI have reached an agreement on holding local and parliamentary elections before end of 2020.The agreement was reached during a tri-partite political parties meeting held in Hargeisa and made official after signature were affixed by leaders of ruling Kulmiye and Opposition UCID and Wadani parties namely president Muse Bihi , Eng. Feisal Ali Warabe and Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilahi Irro respectively .
The new agreement whose point of import is the resurrection of the national election commission -NEC and orders for the electoral body to submit parliamentary and local councils elections schedule within 14 days comes a day after members of the proposed Technical Elections Monitoring Unit-TEMU rejected the role.
TEMU was established earlier in the year as part of political compromise reached by a tri-partite party’s agreement brokered by EU envoy to Somaliland and Somalia Ambassador Nicholas Berlanga in Hargeisa.
The new agreement replaces TEMU with a Technical Election Unit-TEU which is envisaged as a NEC advisory body of three members pooled from the International community with a stake in the Somaliland democratization process.
