Somalilandsun: The three political parties of UCID, Kulmiye and Wadani have been allocated , each , two days of campaign for the Somaliland parliametary and local councils.
This is according to a campaign schedule released by the Somaliland National Elections Commission-NEC in Hargeisa in which the political parties and candidates were warned against actions contravening the country’s election and other laws.
According to the schedule the six days campaign period shall run from the 23rd to 28th May 2021 followed by a day’s hiatus before going to polls on the 30th.
Somaliland shall go to her first joint parliamentary and local Councils elections on the 30th May 2021 all over the country where over 1,200,000 voters are expected to cast their votes for 82 members of parliament and 249 councillors.
With each of the three political parties sponsoring 82 aspiring Legislators and 249 civic leaders the Somaliland 2021 elections has a total of 993 candidates.
Balloting in joint elections shall be undertaken at 1642 1642 polling stations fully manned by NEC with ample security provided by over 7000 police officers.
The elections have also attracted a number of international and local observers
Urging for a peaceful campaign the NEC chairman Abdirashid Mahmud Ali (Riyo-raac) also warned that legal and swift legal action shall be taken on any political party or candidate caught in contravention of law.

“The electioneering conduct must conform with Article 90, Paragraphs 1, 2 and Article 92, paragraph 3 of the Somaliland election law.l” said Commissioner Riyo-rac
This election is both joint and six days campaign period FIRST, since past ones had 21 days of electioneering with each party allocated a full week in alternate days.
