ERIGAVO (Somalilandsun) – The Dahabshil Company has negated the need for Sanaag University students to cram their lessons under acacia trees or in unlit make-shift kiosks.
This development follows the construction of a library cum laboratory funded by Dahabshil Company through its corporate Social responsibility programe that continues to benefit many institutions nationwide and constructed by Takulo a locally based building company.
The new Sanaag university library cum lab which was officially opened at a colourful ceremony officiated by the Sanaag regional governor Prof Ahmed Mahmud Gelle Da’ar is a modern complex that shall not only enable students to pursue their research in-house but store the now scattered thousands of text books the institution owns.
After cutting the tape to the new building Prof Da’ar said that education being the key to development any addition to facilities is a gesture worthy of much appreciation, said he, “On behalf of the regional government I thank Dahabshil company for sharing its profits with us while urging students of this university (Sanaag) to utilize their new facilities to the ultimatum”
The regional governor who informed of the financial difficulties facing the Sanaag University appealed for support from the Somaliland Diaspora which he promised transparency and accountability use of any funds or material donated.
According to our Sanaag region reporter Mohamed Youssef Bakayle the colourful ceremony was participated by hundreds of guests among them parents, University Staff &Students, deputy mayor, coordinators of ministries in the region, Intellectuals, traditional/religious leaders and Somtel chiefs representing the Dahabshil Company.
While thanking the Dahabshil Company for its continued support the Sanaag university vice chancellor Prof Mohamed Duale Mohamed who awarded the company an honorary certificate said the institution which shall make good use of the new infrastructure shall not hesitate to request more from Dahabshil whenever the need arises.
Lamenting on the fast diminishing land occupied by the Sanaag University Prof Mohamed who urged the government to help rectify the situation said, “The Sanaag University occupies a very small piece of land and with the increasing number of student registration we do not have any space for expansion”
According to the Somtel regional manager Mr Awil Salah Abdi his parent company of Dahabshil is committed to assisting multi-sectorial development in the country is also prepared and ready to continue support to Sanaag University whenever approached.
Said he, “While Dahabshil is committed to assisting you we appeal to the students and staff of this great university to fully utilize the new infrastructure thus accrue relevant knowledge stored there and help Dahabshil achieve impact of its donations.”
All the others speakers including the Erigavo deputy mayor Salah Ismail Abase, King Mohamed King Ahmed, Sultans and other leaders thanked the Dahabshil company for its never ending support to communal institutions not only in Sanaag region but entire country at-large.
