Brigadier Hirane the Somaliland prisons Commander says training will result in humane treatment of inmates

HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – Custodian Corps manning correctional facilities have finalized a three day workshop intended to impact them on skills of promoting, protecting and safeguarding human rights of prisoners.
Thirty Custodian Corps drawn from the department’s headquarters as well as regional level took an intensive training program on human rights of prisoners at Hargeisa.
The Commissioner of prisons Brigadier General Mohamed Hussein Farah (Hirane) underscored the importance of the training to prison warders stating that the skills & knowledge acquired from the three day seminar would be reflected on how they engage inmates in their future interaction.
“Inmates are not from another planet but our own brethren who committed crimes that lead them to correctional institutions. It is therefore important for prison officers to protect, preserve and respect their rights in their day to day handling by avoiding actions that lowers their dignity & privacy”, summed up the head of prison institution.
Brigadier Hirane was optimistic that prisoners’ rights would be uphold by being treated humanely and with the dignity that they deserve.
