Hargeisa, (Somaliland Monitor) -Somaliland president Ahmed Mohamed Mohamoud “Silanyo” has warned the ongoing efforts of rebuilding Somalia’s National Army and called international community to reconsider their plans and efforts of rebuilding the Somali national army.
In his speech during the celebrations of the 24th anniversary of Somaliland independence in Hargeisa, president Silanyo stated that the efforts of rebuilding the Somali national army will be a threat to the stability of the region.
”Rebuilding the army and delivery of weapons to Somalia will be a threat to the stability of horn of Africa,” President Silanyo said in his speech.
President Silanyo also stated that Somaliland government sent a formal request to the international community asking to mediate between Somaliland and Somalia.
” It is noteworthy to mention that we have asked international community to mediate between us (Somaliland) and our brothers in Somalia , but our request fell on deaf ears, therefore i wonder why some governments rush to interfere our internal affairs that we can handle while not trying to break the stalemate in Somaliland and Somalia talks,” president Silanyo added.

Somalia’s Federal government with assistance from the International Community has started processes to rebuild the country’s army. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud recently stated that the reconstruction of the Somalia army will help reunite Somalia again.
Despite not being recognized as a nation by the international community, Somaliland has been very successful politically and economically. And it’s avoided the turmoil of Somalia. Independence Day in Somaliland is an annual celebration held on May 18 in Somaliland to mark the unilateral declaration of independence from the rest of Somalia, in May 18, 1991.
